Solar water heating systems
Solar water heating systems use the Sun's energy to produce virtually FREE hot water for buildings. They can also be used to pre-heat water for the central heating system.
Ground source heat pumps
A ground source heat pump transfers heat from the ground into a building to provide heating and hot water. They are a sustainable, unobtrusive and virtually maintenance-free way of heating buildings, which have proved very popular in countries such as Sweden, Austria and USA.
Ground source heat pumps can be over 400% efficient.
Air Source Heat Pumps
An air source heat pump is a unit that can help to heat or cool a building by extracting heat from the air in one part and distributing it to another part.
Solar Electricity (Photovoltaic Cells)
Photovoltaic (PV) cells convert sunlight into electricity without any carbon emissions and are maintenance-free. Spare electricity can be sold back to the grid.
Wind Turbines
Wind turbines use the wind in the air to turn aerodynamic blades that commonly look like propellers on an aeroplane. Some types of turbines have horizontal or vertical blades. The blades are connected to a rotor inside a generator and as the blades rotate, electricity is created. Spare electricity can be sold back to the grid.
Solar Light Tubes
Solar light tubes or sun-pipes or sun tubes as they are sometimes called are a new way to literally pipe natural daylight from a roof top directly into a building. They are especially useful in areas with no or limited windows. They don't use any energy during the day.
Water conservation
Most businesses are now metered for water. The price of water has increased and is likely to rise further in the future. Rainwater harvesting provides a source of free water for uses such as:
- flushing toilets
- vehicle washing
- watering the gardens and grounds
